Tehri Garhwal was very well known for its historic forts is one of the well known districts of Uttarakhand. Situated nearly 75 kms from Rishikesh Tehri is the central place between Uttarkashi and Rishikesh.
Some of the prominent places of Tehri Garhwal includes PratapNagar, Narendra Nagar, Chamba, Chandrabadni, Devprayag etc. This historic place is now submerged as a consequence of World's third largest power plant construction - Tehri Dam.
The whole district headquarter of Tehri has now been shifted to newly created Tehri called as "New Tehri". This is the only district of uttarakhand which is completely establish with a proper master plan.
